The fourth morning in Silver Bay brought a softer wind and a sky that held more light than the days before. Elena woke earlier than usual. The memory of the previous nightβs whispers stayed with her, but the fear had changed shape. It no longer pushed her away from Adrian. Instead it made her want to understand him more clearly. She washed, dressed, and made tea while the first light touched the sea. Then she put on her coat and walked down the path to the beach.
Adrian was already there. He stood near the large rocks, looking out at the water. When he saw her, he raised one hand in quiet greeting. Elena walked toward him. The sand was firm under her shoes. The air smelled clean and cold.
